In June of 2018, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget released a report proposing that the government would restructure the USPS by aligning revenues and expenses to restore a sustainable business model and possibly prepare it for future conversion from a Government agency into a privately-held corporation. Along those same lines, a Presidential Task Force recommending that the USPS adjust its pricing model to differentiate between “essential services” and “commercial services.” On May 10, 2019, the USPS reported 2nd Quarter financial losses of $2.1 billion, with over $800 million being controllable losses.
Against this background, Mark Fallon, The Berkshire Company, will moderate two panels at the upcoming PostalVision 2020 event to be held June 5-7, 2019, that will discuss trends in mail products and parcel products as well as opportunities and obligations. The first panel will focus on market-dominant (monopoly) mail products, answering questions on rates, reform and the role of physical mail in the world of e-commerce. Panelists will include John Mashia, IMS; Nelson Siva, Solution Dynamics; and Angelo Anagnostopoulos, GrayHair.
The second panel will shift to the “competitive products” – Priority Mail and other shipping options – discussing the opportunities and obligations of the USPS. Panelists will include Bill Shannon, Pitney Bowes Commerce Services; Erik Galas, Shopify; and Tim Robinson, Doddle.
