PostalVision Continues the Global Conversation At Post-Expo 2017

PostalVision is once again headed overseas as part of its ongoing global conversation about the future of our postal-parcel-delivery-logistics ecosystem. PostalVision’s founder and chair John Callan will join other global thought leaders at the Post-Expo 2017 event to be held September 26-28 in Geneva, Switzerland.

On Day 1 of the Post-Expo event (Sept. 26), PostalVision will be part of the Start-Up Innovation Jury staged by the Postal Innovation Platform (PIP) and Post-Expo, with support from PostalVision. During the jury process, start-ups have presented their products and solutions with a unique value proposition that will have the potential to change the postal and logistics market or even create a new market.  Attendees at the Post-Expo event will learn about the innovations, and a jury of experts will analyze their value and potential, ultimately selecting a start-up which offers a product or solution that corresponds best to the award criteria. 12 start-ups were selected as finalists ( and will present their products and solutions to the jury and the audience.

The award winning start-up will receive the start-up innovation award and will get substantial visibility through two important postal & logistics publications, Postal & Parcel Technology International Journal as well as the Postal Industry Newsletter. In addition, the award winning start- up will get a unique opportunity to present its product or solution to the experts of Swiss Post.

The Start-Up Jury is comprised of distinguished PostalVision alumnae including Elmar Toime, chairman Postea Group, former CEO of New Zealand Post and member of the supervisory board of DHL; and Mattia Crespi, Institute for the Future, Palo Alto. Also on the jury are Dieter Bambauer, member of the management board of Swiss Post / head of PostLogistics; Nick Pendleton, angel investor, entrepreneur, business mentor and former director strategy & innovation at Royal Mail Group; and Hugues Hansen, CEO, Start’inPost, La Poste’s start-up accelerator.

Also on Day 1 of the Post-Expo event, PostalVision’s John Callan will moderate a session around “Big Data,” along with PostalVision alumnae Dr. Ruth Eberhart, Global Solution Owner Postal, SAP SE, AUSTRIA; and Amine Khechfe. chief strategy officer,, USA. Other presenters include Fionnuala Higgins, chief commercial officer, Escher Group, Ireland; Firoze Hussain, vice president security, Delhivery, India; and Robert Appelbaum, VP worldwide business and solutions development, IBML, USA.  The session will look at how emerging technologies combine with transformation strategies to enable postal and parcel operators to use the vast amounts of data available to improve their business operations.

On Day 2 at Post-Expo, Callan will join Ulrich Hurni, deputy CEO of Swiss Post and head of postmail; and John Acton, managing partner, DPI Europe in a discussion about “New Business Models for the Postal Sector,” which will look at competition faced by traditional parcel and mail business models from new players.

Need the posts change their business models? What can they learn from those new market entrants and is it worthwhile or necessary to learn from them and adopt part of their market strategy? Will posts be ready and able to monetize on the new currency “information”, thus offering part of their services for free in the future? Or what other business models will shape the future of the postal and logistics sector?
