World Economic Forum Recognizes PostalVision 2020 Visionary

It is not every day that I am able to meet someone who is truly visionary, but at PostalVision2020/5.0 Chris Sheldrick shared a new addressing system that connects every corner of this globe. I was amazed at how easy to understand but clearly impactful What3Words is. The system is simple: provide every 3×3 square meters on earth a three word code. It certainly sounds interesting but what are the real implications? For the first time ever the Favelas of Rio De Janeiro are now connected by the national communications system. Before What3Words this area, and many like it all over the globe, were logistically difficult to connect to a mailing system, undermining the inhabitant’s ability to participate in the economy. The momentum seems to be picking up as the World Economic Forum posted Chris Sheldrick’s case for fighting poverty with an address.

The case Chris makes with the World Economic Forum as a platform is a powerful one. As Chris puts it “When we talk about fighting poverty, it’s usually a discussion about access – to education, healthcare, clean water, microfinance, even mobile phones and the internet. These are tough hurdles to overcome, but at least we know the basics of how to make it happen. One obstacle, however, usually gets overlooked, even though it affects around four billion people around the world: people struggle economically, because they don’t have a clear address.”

What3Words is the product of an entrepreneur with a keen sense of philanthropy. This kind of innovation will help make the world a better, more convenient place for every single person who picks up What3Words.

My three words are “exams – trap –  hike”, what are yours?
